How Long Does BOTOX Take to Work?

BOTOX is composed of a type A strain of the botulinum toxin, a neurotoxin that blocks the nerve signals to the muscles that cause certain facial movements. How long does BOTOX last?

The results from BOTOX last between 3 – 6 months, depending on the amount of product you were given. Patients who receive more units (a higher dose) could keep their results for longer than six months. A higher dose of BOTOX will result in a more “frozen” look, while a lighter dose will allow a bit more facial movement but will necessitate more frequent touch-ups.

Your injector will let you know when to schedule a follow-up treatment to maintain your best cosmetic results. In general, after multiple BOTOX sessions with Dr. Christy, most patients are able to benefit from results that last longer than their first session. When the skin has more time to regenerate collagen and smooth itself, lines and wrinkles are less likely to show up.
